There's (what seems to be) a small tie-in with Court of Owls, but since I haven't read volume two of that title, I kind of guessing on that one. Her henchmen leaned toward cheesy at times, but I guess you can't have it all. Grotesque was a b-rated bad guy and pretty much disposable, but Knightfall was really interesting. The sub-plot involving him gave the story a creepy undertone that I really appreciated. Wouldn't you just try to get your kid help? Who just walks away when a little kid threatens them? However, I'm not sure I can totally buy into the reasoning on that one. The reason for her mother's abandonment is also finally revealed. You see some flashbacks in the beginning that explain more of her New 52 origin.not much difference, but still. Some nice art and a great story make for a thoroughly enjoyable book.This was better than volume one, in my opinion. Not necessarily the best but well above average and for the most part it’s a pleasure to take in. The art is very accomplished comic book art. That story kept me awake as the pages continued to turn and I’m just so happy to be reading this book right now. The story arc in the second half of this collection, however, really grabbed me by the lapels and pulled me in. Without any spoiler alerts I was just very unhappy with how that turned out. Ultimately that ended up letting me down. I became very excited when I saw that for one particular little jaunt, Gail was tying it directly to the classic The Killing Joke story. This volume started much like the first one it was good and I was happy to read it. Batgirl’s not one of my favorite characters but she’s one of the most comfortable. I’ve never collected Batgirl comics and don’t have a particularly solid grasp on her history, but Barbara’s always seemed more accessible to me than Bruce. I like Barbara Gordon as Batgirl and I’ve never had any qualms about saying so.
